Integrated Interview Part 2

Integrated Interview Part 2

Q Assignment: Using your video that you recorded for the "Integrated Interview Part 1" assignment, review your work as interviewer by re-watching the video and providing a written summary of your evaluation. Step one is to re-watch your recorded video in its entirety. As you watch your video (and know that it usually isn't easy to re-watch yourself - don't be too tough on yourself), take notes on the counseling skills that you see yourself using. Using this document Download document, categorize the skills you used by putting them in the correct grouping with a time stamp noted of when you used the skill. Make note of exactly what you said (put it in quotation marks as done with the sample response in the document). After watching your entire video and engaging in labeling process described above, step two is to make some notes about the effectiveness of your responses used in the right hand column of this document. If you felt your counseling skill delivery at times was less effective, step three would be to jot down some ideas you might have about alternative skills you could use instead. For example, if you used a closed-ended question that did not seem to allow the client much opportunity to expand, you might be thinking about how to ask the question in an open-ended fashion instead. Be on the lookout for things such as asking more than one question at a time, clarifying the question (offering multiple choice type suggestions) or not utilizing reflective statements as often as you could. As always, also be on the lookout for advice-giving or early moves toward solution-focused steps. While there are categories present for every skills we have learned so far this semester, it is not expected that you will have had the opportunity to use them all - often it is not the case that the advanced counseling skills are able to be used in the first 10 minutes. I included them merely to provide the labeling category in case they were present. You are not being graded on number of skills present across each of the variety types - instead, you are being graded on your ability to effectively label, evaluate, and provide alternatives for the skills used. While completing this assignment, it is expected that you will be watching your video, pausing your video, and then watching again as you go through this process of identification and evaluation. Be sure to allow yourself enough time to review the video in its entirety. During grading, I will also be watching your entire video so this will provide an opportunity for me to examine your self-evaluation in comparison. For grading, each part is worth 10 points with an additional 5 points available for readability and flow. 1. What skills did you see yourself use in the video? 2. How effective was your delivery of these skills? 3. What alternative skills would you like to see yourself use again if you had the opportunity to re-interview the same client? Questions?: Don't hesitate to reach out with any questions. Tracy.Richards@colostate.edu

1. a. In the video I do see that I am using close and open-ended questions, I allow the client to feel comfortable and heard. I can reflect feelings, context, and meaning effectively. The client is open, and I have allowed them to feel that it is ok to be here, the introduction and grasp of them knowing this is staying between us. 2. a. I did well, but there is so much room for improvement, it is different when you see your self vs. when you are in the moment assessing or providing an interview. At first, I thought I did very well but after I sit down and observe and jot down the notes, I know I have a lot of room for improvement.
